I Am ICYE

Once Honduran exchangees are back in Honduras, ICYE Honduras instigates them to continue performing voluntary service in Honduras turning themselves into ICYE Honduras’ volunteers (co-workers), applying all the knowledge they obtained in different social projects where they worked in various countries. These are some of the projects and activities that ICYE Honduras has carried out in Honduras through the esteemed collaboration of the volunteers (co-workers):

Programa de Becas Escolares de ICYE Honduras

See: Scholarships

Educacion en Salud Bucal

What is it? It is a project that promoted oral health among different groups of children in various communities and public schools. Volunteer dentists performed general check-ups to the children applying fluor protectors; various speeches were given on how to clean the teeth properly; many toothbrushes, toothpastes and more were handed out.

How is it sustained? By the donations of all the participants.

Ludotecas Comunitarias

What is it? A “ludoteca” (recreation room) is a children’s centre for leisure time with a toys’ collection to be used by children at the centre or to be taken as a loan; we could say that a toy is for a “ludoteca” what a book is for a library. ICYE Honduras donated two “ludotecas” to two public schools in Tegucigalpa.

When was it founded? It is a project created in 2004 under the competition “Jóvenes Emprendedores” (“Enterprising Youths”) promoted by the “Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID)”.

How is it sustained? By the donations of all the participants.

Celebración del Día del Niño(a)

What is it? Every September ICYE Honduras’ volunteers (co-workers), incoming exchangees, Honduran applicants, and staff members go to a public school to celebrate “Children’s Day”, taking many candies, cakes, games, etc. to play and interact with the children.

How is it sustained? By the donations of all the participants.
